VIP Ministry

What is VIP Ministry

VIP is a special needs ministry designed for children and adults. Special needs is defined as a child (or adult) suffering from a wide range of physical disabilities, medical conditions, intellectual difficulties, or emotional problems. The goal of this ministry is to provide a spectrum of supports for exceptional children and adults as they learn about God, grow in their faith, and fellowship with other believers. We value supporting each person at his or her unique level. We also value helping each person to engage in FBC's ministries as independently as possible.

What types of supports are offered?

  • Inclusive settings for all individuals

  • Buddy System (assigned peer, youth, or adult to be their helper)

  • Special learning tools within each learning environment

  • Trained Leadership

  • Sensory Room- the VIP Room has been specially designed for individuals with sensory needs. This is a great place to take sensory breaks or be utilized for individualized teaching.

  • Sensory Library- Teachers and VIP's can identify and check out favorite items that help them learn, attend, and participate during their time at FBC.

  • Parent partnership- we value parent input as we individualize ministry opportunities at FBC. Our goal is to work together to determine the best supports for your child, no matter their age. We are flexible in our approach and want parents to feel comfortable leaving their child in our hands while they learn about God and grow deeper in their faith with other believers.

  • Transition support- we recognize that there are unique challenges that come when a child moves from one ministry age group to another. We will assist parents and individuals in that process and identify ways to help. As children grow into adulthood we can help them find areas where they can serve and a class that best suits them.

Are there any special events offered through the VIP ministry?

Yes! First Baptist Church recognizes the need for families to have rest and relaxation. One of the first events we have planned is a respite night. Respite literally means “a period of rest or relief.” Respite events provide parents a temporary relief from the responsibilities of caring for children with physical or intellectual disabilities. Respite is a gift of time. It is a church outreach activity that draws otherwise cautious families over the threshold and into the church because respite meets a valuable and practical need. As we begin this outreach, our first respite night will be open to First Baptist Church members and their immediate/extended families. We look forward to making this a community wide event in the near future!

We are blessed to have a facility that can accommodate various ages groups, so this will be offered for babies-adults. Parents can utilize this time for a date night, to run errands, to fellowship with other families, or to just have a quiet evening to themselves. Siblings are welcome to attend along with children of VIP volunteers.

How can I get my child/adult enrolled in this ministry?

Complete the registration form and return it to the First Baptist Church office. If you have any questions, please call us at (931) 433-7187. We will assist you with the process. We are open 8:00-4:00 Monday through Friday.

What do you teach at FBC?

At FBC, we begin teaching our children in the nursery! We see each age as a unique learning approach to teach basic truths about God and Jesus. As children grow, we build on simple truths with more in depth teaching. If your child is part of the VIP ministry, we will do our very best to break down learning topics in a way that is developmentally appropriate. Below is an example of where each child starts in their learning and the progression that follows.

Level 1 Truths

  1. God made me
  2. God loves me
  3. Jesus wants to be my friend forever

Level 2 Truths

  1. I need to make the wises choice
  2. I can trust God no matter what
  3. I should treat others the way I want to be treated

Level 3 Truths

  1. I will love God because He will never stop loving me
  2. I will follow Jesus because he knows me better than I know myself
  3. I will live out God's story so others can know who Jesus is
