“A Fresh Start”

We are all looking for fresh starts when it comes to a new year. Whether we are looking for an overhaul in our life or simply tweaking one or two facets of our life, the process is still the same. Set a goal. Devise small, attainable milemarkers or goals based upon our bigger goal. Develop action steps to achieve the small goals. Start working toward our small goals. Evaluate our plan along the way to set ourselves up for success.

The church starts into another year with the same process in mind. What should be our focus for our goals as a church?

Our goal...to become more like Christ.

Mile-Marker #1: We resolve, as a church body, to know what Christ instructs. We Seek His teaching together each week as we worship God together.

Action Step #1: Make weekly worship a priority as we learn what Christ instructs of us together. By worshipping together we find ourselves walking along the same path...together. (Hebrews 10:25-26)

Action Step #2: Make daily worship a priority by each church member’s life, seeking God’s guidance as our way we should go. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Mile-Marker #2: We resolve, as a church body, to live out what Christ instructs us, based upon our daily and weekly teaching.

Action Step #1: Make a journal entry of weekly teachings. List what God taught you in weekly corporate worship and daily individual worship.

Action Step #2: Spend time with other spiritual brothers and sisters in Christ talking about what God is teaching you. You can start conversations with “Where are you seeing God at work in your life?” This might sound uncomfortable for some of us. However, as we continue to grow into the ambassadors Christ called us to be (that better-embodying His image), we must see Jesus’ instruction to “Go and teach them everything I have taught you” (Matthew 28:16-20). We cannot teach without interactional steps taken each day.

As we talk with other Christians (our spouse, parent, children, co-worker, etc.) about what we are hearing from God’s Word and His Spirit dwelling within us, we find ourselves developing accountability in our life. We develop support by motivating one another to apply what we are learning from God’s teaching to our life. By applying God’s teaching, both individually and corporately as a church, we will reach our goal of becoming more like Christ in 2017. With this church-wide goal, both in mind and in action, God will surely receive the glory He so richly deserves.

Love,
